"Then the other disciple also went in, the one who had arrived at the tomb first, and he saw and believed."

What was this disciple who arrived the first thinking about when he stayed before the tomb? Why did not he enter at once? Is not a love that made him run as fast as he could? Is not a love that made him stop and wait?

"On wstał, wziął w nocy Dziecię i Jego Matkę i udał się do Egiptu."

Życie Jezusa zostaje wpisane w długą i dramatyczną historię Izraela i Egiptu. Egipt dla Izraela jest symbolem domu niewoli, a w czasach proroków miejscem zdrady i odwrócenia się od wiary ojców, tych, którzy szukali w nim schronienia przed inwazją babilońską czy asyryjską. Jezus dzieli los Izraela, wkracza w jego historię, książe pokoju.

"Veniva nel mondo
la luce vera,
quella che illumina ogni uomo."

Dall'inizio i cristiani avevano creduto che il Signore era nato di notte. La luce viene per rompere il dominio delle tenebre e del peccato.

Pt_4Adv_Lc1,78-79

"because of the tender mercy of our God by which the daybreak from on high will visit us to shine on those who sit in darkness and death's shadow, to guide our feet into the path of peace."

How beautiful and powerful are the expresions like "the tender mercy of God", "daybreak from on high", "path of peace", "darkness and death's shadow". We are dealing with a mystery. The coming Lord enters the human reality but he also challenges the non-human powers of darkness.

"Gdy jej sąsiedzi i krewni usłyszeli, że Pan okazał tak wielkie miłosierdzie nad nią, cieszyli się z nią razem."

Krewni i sąsiedzi Elżbiety cieszą się z narodzenia Jana (Jan oznacza "Bóg okazał miłosierdzie").

Sr_4Adv_Lc1,49-50

"Grandi cose ha fatto in me l'Onnipotente
e Santo è il suo nome:
di generazione in generazione la sua misericordia
si stende su quelli che lo temono."

Tutti coloro che temono il Signore sono capaci di accogliere la grazia della misericordia. Sono radicati nella storia della salvezza. Il timore di Dio è la condizione necessaria di rendere possibile la misericordia di Dio.

"Blessed are you who believed that what was spoken to you by the Lord would be fulfilled."

There is a perfect union between the words spoken by the Lord and their fulfillment. The word of God has its creating power. Mary immediately recognized it and responded with a deep faith. This a reason she is glorified by her cousin Elizabeth.

Anioł wraca do domu jak ktoś najszczęśliwszy na świecie.

"Destatosi dal sonno, Giuseppe fece come gli aveva ordinato l'angelo del Signore e prese con sé la sua sposa."

Giuseppe obbedisce la parola del Signore, come l'ha fatto Maria. Una buona immagine del matrimonio, il marito e la moglie che obbediscono la parola di Dio.

S_3Adv_Mt1,20

"Such was his intention when, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary your wife into your home. For it is through the holy Spirit that this child has been conceived in her."

Joseph's worries differs from the generous response that Maria has given to the Angel when he announced her the good news about the nativity of the Son of God. We do not comprehend the simple signs and messages God gives us in our ordinary life. The more Mary's example shows us her extraordinary faith.

Wszyscy przodkowie Józefa, który stał się mężem Maryi i opiekunem Jezusa, zostają uwiecznieni w historii zbawienia. Ciekawe, czy Jezus poznał swojego dziadka Jakuba?

"Tutto il popolo che lo ha ascoltato, e anche i pubblicani, hanno riconosciuto la giustizia di Dio ricevendo il battesimo di Giovanni."

Il popolo ha riconosciuto la giustizia di Dio, la stessa che tra poco il Signore viene a darci, battezzandoci nel nome di Gesù Cristo. In questo momento tutta la vita cambia, non ci sono di più pubblicani e peccatori ma tutti diventano i figli di Dio.
"E tali eravate alcuni di voi; ma siete stati lavati, siete stati santificati, siete stati giustificati nel nome del Signore Gesù Cristo e nello Spirito del nostro Dio!" (1Cor 6,11)

Sr_3Adv_Lc7,20

"When the men came to him, they said, John the Baptist has sent us to you to ask, 'Are you the one who is to come, or should we look for another?'"

This is a very direct question, but there are a lot of anxiety behind it. What do they want to hear from Jesus? Does it change anything in their lives? Tell me, now, who you are, otherwise my fear will reveal a difficult truth about me.

"Przyszedł bowiem do was Jan drogą sprawiedliwości, a wyście mu nie uwierzyli. Celnicy zaś i nierządnice uwierzyli mu. Wy patrzyliście na to, ale nawet później nie opamiętaliście się, żeby mu uwierzyć."

Czego potrzebujemy, aby się nawrócić? Nie wystarcza wołanie proroka sprawiedliwego ani nawrócenia największych grzeszników. Patrzymy na świat oczami lunatyków.

"Il battesimo di Giovanni da dove veniva? Dal cielo o dagli uomini? Ed essi riflettevano tra sé dicendo: Se diciamo: dal Cielo, ci risponderà: perché dunque non gli avete creduto?; se diciamo dagli uomini, abbiamo timore della folla, perché tutti considerano Giovanni un profeta. Rispondendo perciò a Gesù, dissero: Non lo sappiamo. Allora anch'egli disse loro: Neanch'io vi dico con quale autorità faccio queste cose."

Il Signore è stanco di giocare con le parole contro il sommo sacerdote e gli anzani d'Israele. Quanto tempo perdiamo provando a spiegare la realtà con il discorso ragionevole? Siamo davanti all'autorità di Dio, che ci spinge ad accoglierla con gli occhi della fede.

"Jesus began to speak to the crowds about John, What did you go out to the desert to see? A reed swayed by the wind? Then what did you go out to see? Someone dressed in fine clothing? Those who wear fine clothing are in royal palaces."

There is a wonderful line in Shakespeare's "The Merchant Of Venice", said by Bassanio who had to solve a riddle so could marry Portia, a rich and beauty lady. He had to choose one out of 3 caskets: there were the gold one and the silver one (both beautifully ornamented) and the ordinary lead one (which was the right one).
"So may the outward shows be least themselves;
The world is still deceived with ornament.
In law, what plea so tainted and corrupt
But, being seasoned with a gracious voice,
Obscures the show of evil"
People who came to desert to hear John the Baptist, didn't look for "the ornaments" of his clothes, they wanted to hear the truth.

S_2Adv_Mt17,12

"Lecz powiadam wam: Eliasz już przyszedł, a nie poznali go i postąpili z nim tak, jak chcieli. Tak i Syn Człowieczy będzie od nich cierpiał".

Kto by nie przyszedł będzie tak samo. I nie ważne, czy tysiąc lat temu, czy dzisiaj, czy za milion lat, zło psuje człowieka w ten sam sposób. Zaczyna się od serca, które nie rozpoznaje tego, co do niego przychodzi.

Pt_2Adv_Mt11,16-17

"Ma a chi paragonerò io questa generazione? Essa è simile a quei fanciulli seduti sulle piazze che si rivolgono agli altri compagni e dicono: Vi abbiamo suonato il flauto e non avete ballato, abbiamo cantato un lamento e non avete pianto."

Siamo i bimbi capricciosi. Contestiamo tutto e tutti, credendo che questo ci aiuterà ad essere liberi da ogni responsabilità. Questa paura di non essere coinvolto nell'invito del Signore ci potrebbe dire che non sei perfetto.

Cz_2Adv_Mt11,12

"From the days of John the Baptist until now, the kingdom of heaven suffers violence, and the violent are taking it by force."

In other words, more accurate ones, the kingdom of God has been coming violently to change the world. Only those, who are not afraid of being considered crazy and radical are able to take it seriously. John Baptist could not proclaim the Messiah in a different way.

"Anioł wszedł do Niej i rzekł: Bądź pozdrowiona, pełna łaski, Pan z Tobą, błogosławiona jesteś między niewiastami."

Ile razy powtarzamy słowa Anioła modląc się Zdrowaś Maryjo, tyle razy przywołujemy scenę Zwiastowania, w której prosta izraelska dziewczyna została wybrana do bycia matką
Boga-człowieka. Pozdrowienie, które zmieniło wszystko.

Wt_2Adv_Mt18,14

"Così il Padre vostro celeste non vuole che si perda neanche uno solo di questi piccoli."

Come una mamma che guarda ogni passo del suo bambino e sta attenta di intervenire in ogni situazione di pericolo. Il Padre guarda solo dal cielo e dice a stesso per farsi ricordare che ti ha creato persona libera.

"Then astonishment seized them all and they glorified God, and, struck with awe, they said, We have seen incredible things today."

That is a moment, when the course of events is much faster than our rationalizing response. Nobody can believe what has been happened. This is a moment when our hearts spontaneously glorify God.

N_2Adv_Mt3,11

"Ja was chrzczę wodą dla nawrócenia; lecz Ten, który idzie za mną, mocniejszy jest ode mnie; ja nie jestem godzien nosić Mu sandałów. On was chrzcić będzie Duchem Świętym i ogniem."

Aby wejść do wody, ściągamy sandały. Nie należymy już do ziemi tylko do bezmiarów wód nawrócenia. Zmęczeni i brudni przerywamy wędrówkę ziemską. Aby wyruszyć na nowo nie wystarczy być czystym, potrzebujemy Ducha Świętego i ognia.

S_1Adv_Mt9,37-38

"Allora disse ai suoi discepoli: La messe è molta, ma gli operai sono pochi! Pregate dunque il padrone della messe che mandi operai nella sua messe!".

Questo sentimento di vedere tanto lavoro da fare, ma affermando che ci sono poche persone per portarlo a compimento, è una condizione umana che sembra necessaria per creare la conoscenza della dipendenza dal Signore.

Pt_1Adv_Mt28,18-19

"Then Jesus approached and said to them, All power in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the holy Spirit."

Today we celebrate the feast of the great saint - St. Francis Xavier. He must have been with Jesus in the mountain when he addressed his disciples to proclaim the Gospel all over the world. He baptized thousands of people, so his work perfectly embodies God's desire to be confessed in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.

Cz_1Adv_Mt7,25

"Spadł deszcz, wezbrały potoki, zerwały się wichry i uderzyły w ten dom. On jednak nie runął, bo na skale był utwierdzony."

Wielu ludzi, których znamy, prowadzi zwyczajne życie. Niczym się nie wyróżniają od innych. Są prości i normalni. Kiedy jednak przychodzi zawierucha życiowa, oni stoją niewzruszeni, bo zbudowali swoje fundamenty na skale, którą jest Chrystus.
